What is Depression?

Depression is an extremely common issue which is experienced by most individuals at some point in their lives.  It is estimated that one in five people in the UK are currently struggling with depression.  At times we can all be affected by low mood however depression is often characterised by a persistent feeling of sadness which negatively affects our outlook on life and impacts our day to day functioning.
  
Major negative life events such as a loss or bereavement can trigger depression although this is not always the case.  Sometimes the causes of depression may not be clear or apparent.  Often it is the case that depression is the result of many different factors coming together.

  • Feelings of worthlessness and / or guilt
